@Jimmy – couldn’t agree more. You obviously hit a nerve since everyone is commenting on your comment instead of the diagram itself.

@Some other a###ole says – the bible isn’t backed by evidence? are you kidding? There is not one historical event listed in the bible that has proven to be incorrect by modern archaeology. Do some homework.

  2. bRANDON says:

    @Jimmy
“That chart is not backed by one single piece of convincing evidence”?
I think you meant “The Bible is not backed by one single piece of convincing evidence”

Hey, I’ve got an idea… instead of everyone insulting each other, why doesn’t everyone who really hasn’t read the whole Bible go buy a copy on amazon and read it? After all, I think we’d all agree it has influenced our world just a little. Then buy a Koran, and a copy of Mein Kampf, and Origin of Species. Learn a little.

And everyone who has read the Bible but didn’t really understand it, why not buy a book to help bring it together. I like “God’s Big Picture” by Vaughan Roberts.

  4. Anarune says:

I think for anyone (including myself) who has read this entire post w/ comments HAS TOO MUCH FREAKING TIME ON THEIR HANDS! GET A LIFE GUYS AND GALS

  5. Really? says:

Wow people don’t spend this much time and effort arguing about Greek mythology on the web, why does Hebrew mythology get so much attention?

  6. True says:

I’ve read the Bible, and I’m an atheist. I think it’s one of the greatest pieces of literary work of all time. I also think that if people actually understood the greatness of “Jesus” and followed his actions/words that there would be no need for relgion.

  7. vovin says:

I am a atheist and I have read both the old and new testament 3 times over my lifetime. This Jesus guy was one hell of a fellow. He seems to have a very good perspective on life. You can take the wisdom of his words and the meaning of his life to heart without believing in a magical being. he taught love, compassion, and understanding. You don’t need to follow a god to see the value in his words. For me it is irrelavent if he existed or not. The lessons can be learned. I just wish more christians would live according to his philosophy than warp and construe it to fit their own holier than thou attitude.

  8. atheist says:

Lol, everyone leaving comments are christian and have probly not read the bible. Ignorant basterds following what the bible says. Can’t live life without the help of a higher being. Like really??

  9. mike says:

I read the whole thing last year and am almost half-way done with it again. I’m a Christian.

  10. Ken says:

How pity they have read the entire Bible and yet dismisses the existence of God!!! Reading isn’t the same as UNDERSTANDING.. Mark 4:11

  12. reasonABLE says:

I love the argument that if you have read the bible and are an atheist then you just read it wrong…lol That is probably the most “christian” thing I have heard all day. The chart is obviously a joke used to make a point…much like christianity.

  13. Rick says:

I know A LOT of Christians who read the whole Bible very dutifully. It’s not a matter of them not knowing all the crazy shit that’s in there…it’s more amazing to me that they can read all of that, study it in detail, and still walk away believing it is the word of God.

  14. dwells75 says:

This atheist has read it cover to cover multiple times. You have to know what the crazy zealots are going to throw at you and be prepared to take them down with their own theology.

  15. bill says:

More important is that the vast majority of christians don’t follow the word of christ (tolerance, acceptance, love, washing the feet of the poor). If christianity isn’t about following the word of christ, then what is it?

  17. Mick the Cougar says:

Let me be blunt: most atheists are self-inflated dickwads who think that their pseudo-intellectualism is ‘doing something’ for them.

I group most atheists in the same place I group most fundamentalist Christians: self-absorbed idiots-cum-attention whores.

  19. Katra VenDis says:

Go watch Zeitgeist. “The Bible is nothing more that Astro-Theological literary hybrid.” What does that mean? It means the Bible is nothing more than the plagarized (sp) re-hashed, badly edited, hackneyed mythology of conquered ancient cultures. Most of the new testament is lifted directly from the religion of the ancient Egyptians. For example: the 10 commandments are taken from the Egyptian Book of the Dead. Educate yourselves because ignorance really is a fatal condition!

  20. Atheist says:

Why do any of you care what a person believes? I’m an atheist with plenty of theist friends, we agree to disagree. So I don’t understand why atheist have to be called pricks or assholes or any other names. You can believe whatever you want to believe….but I’m sure that calling people names isn’t very christian.

  21. ChloeSimone says:

Are we forgetting that human beings have been around at least 98,000 years before Christianity came into existence?

The hell. Until someone can give me any good fucking reason why that is the case, then the conversation doesn’t have to progress into the logical contradiction and fucked up morals.

    Also, http://standardmadness.com/offbeat/people-who-have-actually-read-the-entire-bible/comment-page-2#comments Very enlightening.

  25. Yarg. says:

Most atheists have more extensive knowledge of the Bible’s contents, yes. However, very few have actually read the Bible itself. They’ve studied others’ analyses of the dreadful thing and have educated themselves on the principles of Abrahamic religion thusly. I do agree that most Christians are genuinely shocked when informed that Jesus advocated the slaughter of disobedient children, or that only 144,000 men will be admitted into Heaven upon the apocalypse. They are even more surprised to learn that Paul and Revelations clearly state that no one is currently in Heaven – everybody stays dead until Jesus comes back. Many are also surprised that Moses stated multiple times that God does not speak in riddles or metaphors – in other words, every bit of the Bible is to be taken literally. Feel free to slaughter your daughter the next time she mouths off.
