Stay Classy Britain: Pole Dancing Classes For 10 Year Olds

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about pole dancing? Strippers? Yeah, we thought so too. But check this out: some dance school in the U.K. is offering pole dancing classes for 10-16 year old girls – as a form of exercise of course. While fitness innovation is always welcome, we think this is a little too much as the pole was always somehow associated to the stripper. Of course, in Switzerland they make condoms for 12 year old boys so pole dancing for 10 year old girls doesn’t really strike us as too far fetched anymore.

Check out the news report after the jump. Picture is somewhat related.

Pole Dancing Bunny

A UK dance school wants to change the perspective of pole-dancing, in a new but controversial manner: pole-dancing classes for 10-year-olds! It’s a six-weeks course, where teens and pre-teens are taught the ways of the exotic dance as a…how should we put this…healthy form of exercise (by working on their flexibility, coordination and strength! Of course! Were you thinking otherwise?).

They say they kick the exotic out, still, many are offended by the concept, calling it disgusting and a premature sexualisation of children.

Totally inappropriate was what Peter Callow, local council leader, had to say about this. Also, Chris Hyde, the mother of a 13 year old girl that takes part in other kind of dance classes, thinks that It’s disgusting someone has come up with this.

Still, Carolyn Armstrong, the class teacher, strongly sustains that there are no adult moves taught and that the course does not cover the sleazy side of pole. There’s a clean side then?

People get the wrong end of the stick she said. Well, who can blame them?

We’re still curious if pole-dancing classes for kids are improper or they can be found as just another form of athletics. Because, at a closer look, this isn’t the first time it’s been done. Yes, in Australia, someone’s already doing this: both boys and girls as young as seven take pole dancing courses.

Angela, an 11-year-old student says It’s really fun and you get to learn a lot of different moves. People think it’s pole dancing but it’s not. It’s great exercise. Oh Angela, what do you know?

I could wrap this up with some sort of a joke about expanding one’s career options, but I’m a girl so I’m just gonna shut the hell up.
